Our Thursday Night Entertainment at The Confluence continues July 20th hosted by John Ross with the return of Lace and Bass as the Feature Performers. Our Feature Performers will perform from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.
Gary Hill is the founder of Manhattan and is the bassist and Vocalist. He has been in the music business since the 60’s when he was a vocalist and guitar player in “The Graduates.” In the 90’s he founded “Silhouettes,” spent several years in an 8 piece Soul Band called Legacy, and enjoyed a brief stint with Youngstown dance band “Hot Item.” Convinced that harmony and dance rhythm was the ticket to entertainment he was instrumental in founding Manhattan.
Susan began her musical career in the Shenango Valley, performing in the late ’70s with the variety band, “Smooth Sailing”. She switched singing styles in the early ’80s to country/rock as a vocalist with the “Glen Rose” band.
Taking a break from the nightclub scene in the ’90s, Susan used her vocal talents to write and sing jingles for radio and cable TV.
Drawn to the nightlife again in 2001, Susan sang with the Youngstown area dance band “Hot Item” before settling in as a charter member of the popular dance band “Manhattan” and continuing to perform with them until 2007.
Music has always been a huge part of Susan’s life and has afforded her many wonderful opportunities. One of the special highlights of her musical career was performing as a back-up vocalist for Michelle Phillips and Denny Doherty of “The Mama’s and The Papa’s”, Mary Wilson of the “Supremes” and Charlie Thomas of “The Drifters” at the 2002 Vocal Group Hall of Fame Concert. Another highlight was singing Blue Moon with Freddie Johnson of “The Marcels” on his many visits to see “Manhattan” perform in the area.
